Acid etched sterling silver

Acid Etching, a 15th C. technique using a resist painted upon the sterling silver before a design is hand drawn with a sharp object cutting through the  resist which allows the acid, in this case ferric nitrate, to ‘eat’ into the metal thereby creating the design that has been drawn on the paint/resist.

This can be used on sterling silver, bronze, brass, german silver - using different acids.
