Bedouin bracelets

These Bedouin style bracelets are based on research of historic Bedouin metalwork, culture, and jewelry that I began in 2002 while visiting Jerusalem and the Negev. These designs are inspired by the jewelry worn by the women of the semi-nomadic tribes indigenous to the Negev desert region of Israel near Jordan. One marker of this jewelry is the fact that frequently coins did not match within the bracelet and were often mixed with different pieces of metal. In some aspects it is similar to Turkoman (or Turkmen) jewelry seen further east.

Every attempt has been made to be faithful to the spirit of this work and to use coins and designs that are period and culturally correct for those political and cultural entities in contact with and influencing these tribes.
